DVD review: K-On! Anime Legends

Before Bandai Entertainment packed up and left the DVD market, they found the time to release a complete series set of K-On!’s first anime season. As one might expect, the set is basically a repackaging of the four volumes previously released, so there’s nothing new here per se. Sadly, there is no Blu-Ray edition of this collection, so those looking to buy the series in that format (which is definitely preferable, as I said in my Blu-Ray vs. DVD comparison) will have to pay up for the individual volumes. On the other hand, for DVD-only buyers who have been wanting to buy the show but held out for a cheaper alternative – well, it’s here.

Happy Birthday Ui!

Yes, it’s Ui Hirasawa’s birthday today. I’ve said before that I’m not much for celebrating fictional characters’ fictional birthdays, but it’s not like I mind when other people do – and I couldn’t do a K-On! fan blog if I didn’t at least mention it, now could I?

So yeah, it’s Ui’s birthday. All hail the perfect devoted little sister none of us could possibly have in real life. Go Ui!

News: K-On!! season 2 licensed by Sentai Filmworks!

American and otherwise English speaking K-On! fans just got another reason to live: Sentai Filmworks announced today the license of the second anime season – K-On!! – for release on DVD and Blu-Ray disc later this year.

As with Bandai Entertainment’s release of the first season, Sentai’s release will feature an English dub by Bang Zoom! Entertainment. With that being the case, it’s a fairly solid bet the dub will retain the English voice cast from the first season.

After a long period of uncertainty eventually turned into pessimism regarding K-On!’s future in the US, it is a great joy to receive such fantastic news. Now the waiting begins! Mom, dad… I promise I will never cut my wrists again.

CD review: “K-On! Character Image Song Series” part 2: Ritsu, Tsumugi & Azusa

The second batch of K-On! character singles were released in late August of 2009. The first wave had seen the release of Yui and Mio’s singles, and this second wave upped the simultaneous CD release count to three, with the Ritsu, Tsumugi and Azusa singles all coming out at once.
If you read the first part of this particular review series, you may remember that I’m not particularly fond of anime character image songs in general (if you missed it, you can read my pretentious ramblings here) but came to the conclusion that the first two K-On! character singles had several strong points. The question is, would this continue with these next three outings?
